What is Casa Hogar Hijos de la Luna?
Casa Hogar Hijos de la Luna is not an orphanage, but a temporary home for children whose single mothers cannot support them financially while caring for them at home. The house was started in 2001 by María Socorro Ramirez González who opened her home in response to this endemic crises that children are experiencing in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. The house initially gave shelter to two children, but is now a home to over forty children between the ages of 3 weeks and twelve years old. In 2007 the house was formalized as a non-profit organization.

Hi Ariana. Are you still in Oaxaca? I can’t remember who gave me your contact info, but thought they said you were leaving the end of July. I have visited Hijos several times, but unfortunately can’t can’t out there as often as I would like to. I would like to help with some of the fundraising activity and have discussed a couple options with them in the past, but mi español no es bien and some things get lost in the translation. Anyways, if you are around, would love to connect up and chat or maybe we could talk via Skype or email if you have left already.

I just received the e-mail from Blanca, the friend who gave you my info. I am so glad you would like to help out. I just finished passing the role of project leader on to my sister, Sophia, because I am about to leave for college. So, I cannot tell you what the best way for you to help out would be, but I e-mailed you my sister’s contact info and I am sure she would be happy to meet with you and discuss the matter.
